She has taken several informative workshops featuring work with original fresco material, and recently a very ancient form of art called encaustic which is working with pigments and hot wax. This has helped create a wide variety of mediums for Dena to paint in depending on each situation.
For further training Dena has attended the Alberta College of Art and Design, the University of Calgary, and Mount Royal college. She has also taken a wide variety of workshops held by professionals in Calgary. In addition, Dena is a member of Artpoint for the past several years and strives to hold a few art shows each year to showcase her work.
For the past several years, Dena has painted Whimsical Designs at the Alberta Children's Hospital with some of her art colleagues. This is purely a volunteer project and has provided the girls with a chance to express their art and help bring happiness to others at the same time. The scenes are changed frequently and the children have really taken to them.
Dena's work can be found through various sources in print and online. The Contact and Links section contains direct links to most of these sites which include, but are not limited to, the Adopt-an-Artist Foundation, The Willow Studio, and Canadian Artists for the Poor.
About Dena
"I am originally from England, but have lived in Canada for many years and raised two fine sons. I currently reside just outside of the town of Okotoks with my husband Gerald, and a variety of animals including horses, donkeys, and a rambunctious dog. I discovered art later in life but one of my sons is also an extremely talented artist so I suspect it has been in the family all along!"
